About Deutsch Schmeutsch
Who cares about German and Germany? Deutsch? Schmeutsch.
Well, I do for one and I imagine there are many others out there that are also fascinated with contemporary German culture, the German language, German literature and history, food, music, current events and just about everything German. This is blog is a collection of those tiny points of interesting things that orbit the idea of Germany and its people.
For my part, I am a Germanist who has been a lifelong learner and teacher of German language and literature. I was looking for a way to keep these assorted interesting links and unorganized thoughts about Germany when it occurred to me that I should just throw them onto a blog and see who else finds it interesting. As a teacher, I’ve had the opportunity to see before how even the most trivial ideas spark greater notions in the minds of students and I’m hopeful that that may occur here as well. Further, I’ve got to put this stuff somewhere and why not put it out there for the world to see.
What you can expect is to see interesting book reviews, news, the occasional German language tip, cultural items, an essay here and there and thoughts on current events and current publications. My specialty is literature, but I’ll try to be more diverse than that. Also, should I miss something that you think is an interesting tidbit and blog-worthy, I’d love to discuss it and put it up here. Shoot me an email at robert.dougherty [at] gmail [dot] com and we’ll hash it out.
Danke nochmals für den Besuch und ich wünsche viel Spaß beim Lesen!
